I’m at the end of my first day of a 14 day CABALA juice fast, it’s full moon and Winter Solstice Eve. I just met up with my ex for the first time since we split. He gave me a pretty nice birthday present and a heartfelt apology for his crappy behaviour pre- and during the break up. Life’s too short and too beautiful to hold grudges. I’ve decided to forgive the fucker.
Back to the subject of this post (although my digression was kind of relevant). So I’ve been carrying an extra 5kgs around with me for a while. Kinda like a friendly buffer from the vicissitudes of life. I look fine but I’m not at my sleekest. Plus getting slack with food choices and tempted by too many unhealthy temptations at the office and at the bar. It was time to take some action.
My main girl surf buddy the divine Jacks suggested we have a crack at the CABALA cleanse, which she did a year ago and loved. I did some reading. It seemed simple to follow and good for me. And promoted by American health cowboy Don Tolman, who my yoga teacher follows, and whose son Tyler (also a lover of the juice fast) I spent some time with in Bali a few years back and is a good enough egg.
C is for Carrots (2 kg of them)
A is for Apples (2 green ones)
B is for Beetroot (1 small one)
A is for more Apples (2 yellow ones)
L is for Lemon (1 whole lemon, rind and all)
A is for yet more Apples (2 red ones this time)
I’m using organic carrots, beetroot and red apples and lemons my dad grew himself! (YUM). I couldn’t get organic granny smiths so using regular juicing ones, and I couldn’t find any yellow apples so using 3 each of red and green. You can drink as much juice as you like and water is optional.
This recipe makes about 1.7 litres of juice I discovered today. That was all I had and after a run around the Burleigh Headland before work, by morning tea time I was quite starving and a little feint and wondering what the hell I’ve got myself into.
Turns out, after consulting with Jacks, and reading a few CABALA blogs tonight, I wasn’t drinking enough juice. You have to drink at least 2.5L a day, and today I only had my 1.7L. Tomorrow I will juice double this recipe and drink as much as I need to not feel hungry.
It has turned to freezing cold today and I have been advised by a couple of friends to add a veggie broth to the mix, to keep the fires burning on the inside. This flows with my limited knowledge of Ayurveda, so after a few days on the juice alone I might try adding the broth if it feels right. If it feels right I will stick to the CABALA recipe.
But 14 days… that’s a lot of days. Already today two people asked me to join them for dinner. What’s a food loving girl to do? Really… 14 days is not a lot of days. My body, my female animal, deserves it. Let’s see how she goes. One day at a time.
